Host Cell Line
Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cell line is an industry standard in terms of recombinant therapeutic protein production. More than 70% of biological products are produced using this cell line and it has very high level of safety profile from regulatory agency’s standpoint. Biocognate uses highly efficient protein producing CHO-K1 line licensed from Merck, which has detailed documentation on cell lineage and history. This cell line can be easily transfected with standard transfection protocols with high efficiency and produces even complex recombinant proteins. The cell line provides high specific productivity and reaches cell densities in bioreactors that is manageable in terms of allowing optimal distribution of O2 and CO2 levels to maximize the right physiological conditions for cells to grow and produce recombinant protein.
Expression Vector
Protein expression vector plays a critical role in determining the quality of recombinant clones that are generated. Biocognate uses a licensed vector platform from Merck that enables creating high quality cell lines with best-in-class recombinant clones that would be compliant with regulatory agencies across the world. The proprietary genetic elements within the vector design allows Biocognate to generate high protein yielding clones with sufficient clone stability to allow for process scales adequate for clinical as well as commercial manufacturing.
